While you are reading this post, piles of old electronics are accumulating in companies' warehouses. In Belgium, an average organisation collects 200 kg of old or defective devices.
Recupel, a Belgium network organisation for waste collection, has seen in it an unexplored potential.
Smartloop, an online platform that meets supply and demand, has been launched by Recupel for the International e-waste Day and gives the chance to companies and organisations to offer their stock of electronics to interested recycling networks. Once the two parties are connected and willing to make the exchange happen, it will be on the collector to go and pick the electronics up.
In this way, old or unused electronics can be either reused or recycled, but they most importantly
enter the loop of circularity.
Precious materials can thus be treated and transformed in second raw materials for new use.
